Who Lives Here? Boy or Girl? — A Decor Quiz

When it comes to what colors or products are "for" boys and "for" girls, parents are ahead of the curve and defying tradition. In some cases, this is very intentional - "I didn't want a girly room," is something we hear from parents often. And since many parents wait to find out their baby's sex until the birth, they opt for a nursery that they feel will work for either scenario. So, let's have some fun: here are ten rooms, test yourself (and your assumptions) and guess who lives in them: a boy or a girl? More

What do you think about when you buy a new sofa? Probably you think about the size, the color, the style, how easy it will be to maintain. Almost certainly you think about the cost — whether or not it's a good value. But what about the human cost? Who makes the stuff that fills our homes? Where do they live? How are they treated? More

Ideas & Instructions: 9 Woody DIY Headboards

I once had to make a headboard for a photo shoot and found it surprisingly easy. I just ordered the wood from the local hardware store in the width and height that I needed (standard widths: twin: 38 inches; full: 54; queen: 60; king: 76). I then purchased some batting and fabric to cover the board and staple-gunned away like I was wrapping a gift. More

This time last year we put together a round-up of 10 Classic Glam Nurseries , which was a real visual treat and loved by many. But sometimes loving the look of something does not necessarily mean knowing how to pull it off. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of how to put together a classic glam nursery of your own.
Sandra & Justin's Kitchen: Dealing with Dust — Renovation Diary

Good riddance to the ceiling popcorn. Name: Sandra & Justin Type of Project: Kitchen remodel Location: Arlington, Texas Type of building: Single-family home, 2,450 square feet The Renovation Diaries are a new collaboration with our community in which we feature your step by step renovation progress and provide monetary support towards getting it done in style. See all of our Reno Diaries here . This week we created the biggest mess of our young lives and went through lots and lots of plastic sheeting. Prepping the room to take out the popcorn ceilings felt like we were making a field operatory or just a scene out of Dexter. Removing the popcorn ceilings wasn't very difficult, but it took a lot of water to loosen it. With the soffits our and the popcorn ceilings removed the room felt instantly less oppressive and dark. There was so much more light in the room and coming from the long tunnel of work still ahead. More

I have a friend who has more kids than me, whose husband works longer hours than mine, who cooks and bakes more than I do, and yet her house is tidier than mine, always tidier than mine. What gives? I decided that this week, it was time to get to the bottom of it: what are the dirty little secrets of those tidy families? More
