The ultimate in reuse strategy is to re-imagine and give new life to an entire building. This ancient defense tower in Suffolk, England is a beautiful example of up-cycling. The previously neglected building is now a lovely, thoughtfully designed home.
Piercy Conner Architects worked with the owner Duncan Jackson to figure out innovative ways to bring in maximum natural light through minimal window openings. Light tubes and a central staircase sculpt natural light through the home and to the lower levels without disturbing the original look of this historically protected building.
When Kevin and I take our dogs for walks, we sometimes come across abandoned buildings, where their original function is no longer needed. This Suffolk Tower project inspires us to re-imagine such forgotten structures and how they might have a fabulous new use and life, while re-using the old.
