The New Canaan Historical Society is hosting a Modern House Tour and Symposium.



The New Canaan Historical Society in New Canaan Connecticut, is hosting a Modern House Tour and Symposium on October 23, 2004. New Canaan is home to Phillip Johnson's well known Glass House, as well as many other modern and mid-century homes.

Tour sites include houses by architects Philip Johnson, John Black Lee, Allan Gelbin, and Peter Gluck.

Speakers include John Morris Dixon FAIA, Architectural Critic and Former Editor, Progressive Architecture; John Johansen, "Harvard Five" Architect; Michael Webb, Author: Modernism Reborn, Mid-Century American Houses; Susan S. Szenasy, Editor in Chief, Metropolis; James Zemaitis, Head of 20th-Century Design, Sotheby's, NY; Toshiko Mori Principal, Toshiko Mori Architects, and Architecture Department Chair, Harvard Graduate School of Design.

Ticket Price includes: Breakfast, Morning Symposium, House Tour with transportation provided, and Cocktail Reception. Price: $250 per person - limited number of tickets available. Tickets on sale from August 31st at the Society - (203) 966-1776.

Attendees will be driven to each house via private tour vans, escorted by an architect or historian of the modern movement available to answer questions and to educate. At each house attendees will be given a private tour, in some cases by the original architect.
