Plastics Council's modern memorys
Editorial Rating:
In this ad by industry association, The American Plastics Council, the Modern Home is depicted in a timeline of a boy growing up. It is significant that the Modern Home was chosen to represent a common memory of two generations, the parents and children.
First we see a small boy running around his house with a plastic toy in a setting of modern furnishings and finishes of a mid-century modern home. A little bit older we see him skateboarding in the driveway of a mid-century neighborhood. After a few more scenes we see him now grown confronted by his own rambunctious daughter.
Tip of the hat to realpill for identifying this ad - thanks!

awesome booska - I really appreciate the help.
Rose Seidler House in Sydney
The interior images in the Plastic Council's TVC were shot in Harry Seidler's Rose Seidler House which is in Wahroonga, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.
Here are my pics of the house: http://fabprefab.com/othermod/roseseidlerhouse/
The exterior shot of the garage behind the skateboard ramp is a different house.
AU house, US ad
That is the house for sure. I wonder how an american trade organization ended up with a production company in Australia.
production there is not uncommon
You might be surprised by how much Film and TV production for the US market is undertaken in Australia and New Zealand. It is all about $$$ - the cost base is lower there and yet the skills/technology/resources are as good as anything in the USA - in fact some people would argue they are better ;-) There are few of the language/cultural obstacles that come from buying services in markets with even lower costs and the legal systems are broadly similar in terms of recognizing IP and enforcing contracts etc. Apart from major motion pictures (e.g. Lord of the Rings series = New Zealand, Matrix series = Sydney), TV shows and TVC’s get shot there too. I sense that the production companies in Aust/NZ are pretty good at marketing their services to overseas customers.
I haven’t seen the Plastics TVC – I’ve just seen the stills posted here. Could they have reused footage from something else? Are there speaking parts by the talent or is it just a Voice Over. No need to answer these Qs – just noting that sometimes (not too often) footage gets repackaged for another purpose.
One final point is that when someone from the US proposes shooting in Aust/NZ, there are few people who say “no I don’t want to go there” – the common reaction is “Cool!” and then the fighting begins over who from the client side gets to travel there to “supervise”…
AU production
That makes sense. I was aware of the film industry shooting there, but I did not realize that it was also common in commercials.
I think we need a correspondent to go over to AU and investigate this further - I think it should be me!
