Ameritrade wakes us up in modern times
Editorial Rating:
This great ad uses the subtlety of an image of a near future to show their services integrated into your life. Everything we see is familiar, yet a few steps ahead of what we have now. But this is a near future where technology does not hide in faux historic clothes. Everything we see is honestly what it is. The subtle message is about being comfortable with technology and living in a house that is comfortable about being modern.
Interestingly enough at the beginning of the ad we are outside the house, and it does not look particularly new or modern. We see the lights come on by themselves as we hear a clock radio come on. The scene cuts to a modern interior, a bedroom, with a close up of a decidedly retro clock radio - the kind with the numbers on little flaps like they used to have at the train stations. The clock reads 20century, and it flips to 21century! We don't see much in the following scenes of the morning routine, but everything is deliberate. An electronic faucet in the bathroom delivers water to waiting hands, a wall as computer display lets you check your trading account, a stainless kitchen stands by like another piece of furniture, a wireless keyboard is picked up as if a morning newspaper, a sleek car warms itself up in the garage (a recent Volvo concept car?) waiting for the ride to work.

Great commercial
I saw that commercial too! I tivo'd it and watched it like 15 times. Its good to see mainstream advertising using images like this.
I think the commerical is pathetic
The dog wants to go outside and instead the guy goes upstairs to do stock trades while the dog is just aching to be let outside. The first thing you do is let a dog out in the morning. They need to pee just as much as you do. If you have ever had a dog as a pet you know this is a fact. So the guy manages to have a coffee, make stock trades, shower and dress and yet the dog still waits? This modern setting would smell like dried dog urine and I'll take an old log cabin without the smell anyday over that.

Astin
I want an Astin Martin to go with MY modern home!
