here finally is a view of the entire interior fitout

I'm not going to spend anymore time on dressing this right now, as I need to study the stacking schemes a little bit more closely.

Keep going

Yes, please continue. I'm even more anxious to to see your stacking scheme for the IBU's rather than alternative color schemes for the internal layout at this point.

bed time

i know you're not spending more time on the int. rt. now, but this is another great place for a murphybed, eh?

or, i like those welded-in beds a certain architect(ure and hygiene) used in his container home. (http://www.fabprefab.com/fabfiles/containerbay/063-quikbuild-kalkin/063-quikbuild-deitch-2004.htm)

A murphy would be great here.

Insulation

I love the avenue you are exploring, but what about required insulation values for the walls? If you loose 4 or 5 inches around the perimeter for insulation, the plan is SOL. Slap it on the exterior?

BTW, who cares about your rendering color choices! Good. inspirational work! SJ

need a buyer/believer

Posted by Gregory La Vardera at 08-01-2005 20:00

I'm glad you are enthusiastic. We need a buyer to make this real however - always the most important step.

The insulation is there - we are using the same system that the manufacturer has used on modified containers deployed to deserts, and mining facilities, and many different situation. When it comes time to permit we will probably need to forward test results to the plan examiner but that is to be expected.

Square Footage & early adopters

Posted by Sara R. Sage at 08-02-2005 00:47

It's is amazing to see what has transpired in one year since I have visited these boards. This sort of thing would have been a pipe dream a year ago. If I wasn't already building a house of your design, I would do this!!!

Lately, I've come to realize how large American homes have become and I can see how IBUs can offer flexibility and affordability within a small footprint. I think these renderings look great- and much unlike a trailer home!

David, Walter and I will be leaving a living space of 850 sf and (eventually) move to a 1450 sf home. All I hear from the neighbors is "why are we're bulding such a small home?" I think that a large home, if anything, should be worth less for all the time and expense it incurs.

I guess my point is that I think there is a market for this type of thing and I really hope you can find an early adopter. I think the next step is proving that IBU construction can accomodate families; well, we love it!

doors

just a suggestion - for future thought on finishing the interior.

the doors to both the bathroom and bedroom might save some space by becoming pocket sliding doors (both slide right to left)
