Description:

Greg La Vardera of LaMiDesign and Northern Steel International have teamed to design and build the 6040 House, a pre-engineered, modern steel home.

The 3,065 sf, 2-story home is designed to be built within the standard framework of a 60' by 40' pre-engineered steel building, hence the name. But as the 6040 floor plans show, it is also designed to provide a feeling of loft-like space and light.

The 6040 House contains 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, with a ground level master suite. The master suite contains its own second floor loft space (office/library) accessed by a spiral staircase. There is a second master bedroom with its own master bath as well. The ground level public spaces are open to the full height of the structure and circulation space from the bedrooms above overlook these spaces. The ground floor also features a media room. The structure as delivered and installed also includes decks and a 3-car garage.

The 6040 House begins with an all steel insulated design, utilizing pre-engineered, pre-cut, pre-drilled and pre-marked steel pieces produced to order in a factory. After delivery by truck, the building is installed onto your site-built foundation by you or your local contractor, or by Northern Steel (your option). Simply bolt the pre-fabricated frame to a concrete slab, screw on the pre-finished roof and wall sheets, and attach the supplied doors, windows and trim. Once installed, the 6040 House is ready for interior finishes applied by you or your local contractor.

A pre-engineered building is a generic industrial building made by many manufacturers, Butler perhaps being the most recognizable brand name. Pre-engineered steel buildings can easily be engineered for the most demanding building code requirements, including earthquakes and hurricanes.

The benefits of steel construction over traditional lumber construction are compelling. Cutting down trees to build homes is an outdated and unsustainable method of building. Not only is the construction time reduced with an all steel residence, you eliminate termites and exterior maintenance. Toxic mold and home fires are virtually eliminated. This adds up to a more balanced environment with a higher interior air quality.

The 6040 House is the first in a series of modern residential designs by Greg La Vardera to be produced by Northern Steel, as part of its EcoSteel™ residential pre-engineered steel building system. The line will utilize the existing industrial infrastructure, manufacturing and installation network, and economy of scale of the pre-engineered building industry for commercial applications.

The 6040 House is available immediately nationwide. For a limited time only, Northern Steel will provide free shipping to your home site from one of its 13 locations throughout the continental US.
