After finding property to build our home (see pictures above), we began searching for an architect/designer with a background in modern residential design. Luckily, I came across the Livemodern forum and found Jon Delcambre. After looking at the numerous pictures of his home he designed on 468 Easton Ave. in Dallas ("link to 468 Easton":http://members.livemodern.com/Members/jpd12arch/Modern%20Spec%20Homes/blogentry.2006-01-02.9085837306) I was immediately drawn to his use of natural materials, large open spaces, natural light, open courtyards, and green/sustainable products with a focus on energy efficiency. This was exactly what my wife and I were looking for. After speaking with Jon on the phone, I knew he was the right person for the job. He also recommended a builder (Donald Ferrier) who focuses on building green, sustainable, energy-efficient homes ("link to Ferrier Builders":http://www.ferrierbuilders.com). Don also was responsible for building the Easton home. Jon quickly came up with a design proposal and concept for our home, and, after some minor changes to the design/floorplan, he came up with the following initial sketches:
