temp work - research - garden and food

since the last entry... we moved downstairs. painted the bathroom. organized a studio, a bedroom, a living room. built a bike room in the basement, complete with work bench, bike clamp, and bike gear storage. asked our potential architect when he'd come to town. and we met with the electrician.

we restarted the compost bin, waited for a sunny day so we can get our garden to a start - that has not arrived yet. i think the hills around vancouver received 3-4 feet of snow since last sunday. didn't go ski, went to a green reno open house instead.

we do find the time to play though. got a bran spankin new bike. oh sweetness.

much of what we do now is temporary so we can live adequately until the house is raised a year or two from now. the idea is: if we can't reuse it in the later project, we don't buy it or we don't change it. so far it's working.

the pedal power kind. smells much better. and necessitates no war for oil.

such beautiful machines, they elegantly leverage your strength into rapid transportation.

Good - now that I know you share the love, what kind of bike did you get!!?

i wanted a specialized pro disc but the price was a touch too high and i didn't want to be an obvious target for theft. in the end i chose the sport disc, enhanced as such: shimano 105 rear derailer, hard seat post, body geometry race saddle, mid-rise handle bars, cyclo-cross tires. it came standard with mechanical disc brakes. the thing works real well in the rain as much as in the present great weather we enjoy. it is sooo sweet to ride it! nimble. fast. smooth but nervy. yummy! later in the season i may be able to install a carbon fork.

i should take a pict of our temp bike room when it's done and post it - it's almost finished.
