partyBARN, Little Blanco River, Comal County, Tx

The Blanco partyBARN is a weekend retreat for an Austin family. Built yards from the Little Blanco River and only a few feet above the FEMA 100 year flood plain,
the design took the possibility of a flood event very seriously. Utilizing the floodproof nature of concrete block and a pre-engineered steel building, a large open
pavilion was constructed, with adjacent kitchen, storage and bathroom spaces housed in a concrete block "bunker" to the upstream side of the structure. The floodproof
scheme has already been tested via a 500 year flood event that had two and a half feet of water over the top of the slab!

Atop the block section of building and within the envelope of the pre-engineered steel building, sit two generous bunk rooms, each with its own inviting exterior
deck overlooking the adjacent tree canopy.

Construction to be completed in early fall 07. A designSTUDIO design/build project.
