Hi everyone!

This project has been epic...but through sheer will and determination we are getting 'er done. We bought the land in January 2005 and spent the next THREE YEARS pursuing a building permit from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Some of the details of that time are on this blog - I'll spare you from the rest and jump to the good stuff.

Construction began September 2007!

First we cut back the hill, dug, reinforced and poured (25) 24" caissons that average 40' deep:

Here's another shot of the drill rig, some of the caisson reinforcement and the dewatering pits on the day of a concrete caisson pour:

It's a pier and gradebeam foundation for the sitewalls and the house. Here's a section through the 24"x30" gradebeam. Lots of steel:

Then we built the site walls, all out of board form concrete. Some of these walls are 12" thick at the base:

And the lower floor of the house, also out of board form concrete:

We put radiant tubes in the floor and also vertically up one exposed wall:

Then the HIGHLY MODIFIED LV kit arrived and we started framing (not much left of the original LV design):

What's left of the LV kit sits on top of the lower floor. The cantilever corner is pretty trick:

Which pretty much brings us up to date. The upper level kit walls will get tipped up next week. My framer says that it would have been much quicker to site build the house.
