- Re: need assistance finding dining room table for mid century home — by Thomas Zdon — last modified 09-06-2008 19:12
- Thanks for the response. I did check out Unica home and there was nothing that had the mid century elegance of the table I'm looking for. They had what seems to pass as modern nowadays... chrome, glass, tables with 4 legs (we've seen these before). I did see one I liked but was immediately nixed by the wife as being too minmalist. So - I then checked out the legs as well. Interesting ion the one new design - but again - not thin rod steel ... I am in touch with a furniture cabinet maker about customizing the table. It will require multiple people to do - someone who specializes the in brass legs and bending brass rod, and him for the top - we are going with rosewood.

- Barry the Builder took this shot of a completely clad section of the house -- the guest wing. For the first time, you can see what the finished exterior will look like. If it's possible for a guy to swoon, I'm swooning. To me, the cedar, black windows, concrete and galvalume flashing harmonize perfectly — the cedar warming up the concrete, the black windows ensuring that the cedar doesn't look too rustic, and so on. He's also built the deck, which looks sharp, and contrasts nicely with both the black window frames and the concrete. Time to buy those cool chaises longues.

- Sliding doors finally arrive — by LiveModern Webmaster — last modified 09-06-2008 15:34
- Sometimes in construction annoying things happen. Like when your glass install company orders the sliding glass doors to the same exact frame size as the rough opening dimensions that you specifically gave them. The whole idea of a rough opening...

- How to choose a garden office — by LiveModern Webmaster — last modified 09-06-2008 13:36
- Searchme Maximize stack view It's the most basic question of all when it comes to shedworking - how do I choose the right garden office for me? One of the problems is that when you type in "garden office" or "garden studio" into your browser of choice you are bombarded with options. Of course, as many people on the lookout for a shed to work in have done over the last couple of years, you can browse around Shedworking and especially the list in the right hand column of suppliers. But that is time consuming. Here, above, is an interesting new way of looking for the shed of your dreams which I'm experimenting with via searchme - you are shown a series of web pages (I'll do a separate one for videos tomorrow) which you can easily flick through and click onto to get to the page. It's by no means an exhaustive list nor does inclusion mean endorsement by Shedworking, but I'd be interested to hear what readers think about it.

- EYE ON DESIGN: New Plans for New Towns — by Daniel Gregory — last modified 09-06-2008 06:43
- Dateline: Daybreak, Utah I just returned from Utah where I attended a fascinating community planning brainstorm and then toured the state's newest new town: Daybreak, at the south end of the Salt Lake Valley. Views across the valley to jagged peaks promote blue sky thinking: no wonder that famous early settler said "This is the Place." The planning session, called...

- Our first load of panels arrived today. Panels for 1st and 2nd floor walls arrived. The 12″ thick roof panels will arrive at a later date. Due to the site constraints, unloading the truck was slightly tricky, but we managed to get everything off the truck and onto the ground without any injuries or broken [...]
