So I called up the Plans Examiner (his official title) and explained that there were other houses in the neighborhood with stucco chimneys. His response...
"Well, it looks like a precedent has been set."
So the stucco chimney is back on! I really do think that this bump in the road was because they know they are going to have to deal with angry calls when the house goes up and they want to be able to say that they, at least, made us strictly adhere to the code. I think they are probably pretty happy that we found those other chimneys because this lets everybody win.

Hopefully the plans will be complete this week and out to bid next week. Christmas is probably going to slow things down, though.

I guess this is to be expected when you are doing something new-- especially in a residential area. Thanks for keeping us updated and congratulations! So now you'll go more into the budgeting/contracting phase?
