Guess what I saw today?
Editorial Rating:
... a stucco chimney on the new house across the street. The house is a mix of brick and stucco with a stucco clad chimney sticking out of the roof.
Ten minutes later, as we took our walk along the creek in the park, I could see the back of the mayor's new house. It is red brick with... (you know what comes next, don't you -- savor the moment, I did) ...a white stucco chimney. They didn't even bother to paint it to match the rest of the house.
So that makes 14% of the new houses have stucco chimneys and one of the two houses has no stucco anywhere else on the house.
My wife, the attorney, is drafting a letter to the planning department to suggest there may have been a misunderstanding. We don't want to threaten in any way, but I am hoping they will want to avoid the appearance that the rules do not apply to the mayor.
Stay tuned.

Agreed
Strangely, the guy we are dealig with directly thinks we should be allowed to leave the steel chimney bare. It is his boss that made this call. I am hoping that with a little gentle prompting, they will give us the reply we want.

what a surprise
Oh yes, life can be so fair sometimes when you least expect it. Remember when you are writing the letter - you are letting the zoning official off the hook - nobody can complain about this feature if he can point to these other houses. I doubt he really cares one way or the other.
