Finally, a great image of the house (from Mark Meyer) and a (rather crude) image of the floor plan (colors of stucco not yet finalized).

Have a look at our house.

What the image does not show is the big elm tree in the front or the pecan tree on the right of the driveway. It is also missing the driveway along the right side to a detached garage in the back yard.

And here is the plan.

plan

We intend on planting a Japanese Maple in the courtyard. Because we are using SIPS, the second floor ceiling will be vaulted. The wall height of the second floor at the courtyard is 7' and at the exterior wall is about 13'.

Yes, my wife does play the piano. I don't know if it is surprising or not, but in a house with only one main living area (no seperate formal living area) a piano necessarily dominates the initial design phase of any house. You almost need to have a seperate music room or an alcove to stick the thing. I think we would have bought a Wieler Homes Greenbelt 2 if we could have worked out the piano.

We won't have two cooktops. The crude home architecture program I used lets you do cooktops, but not single ovens mounted under the counter. The cooktop will face the back yard and the oven will be over by the refrigerator.

Finally, as the construction docs are almost complete, if you see any major problems with the plan, please keep them to yourself!

stucco

i don't know what stucco colors you are considering, but i saw this beautiful color at trendsideas.com. here is the url: http://www.livemodern.com/Members/ezekieltattoo/fsphotoalbum.2004-11-27.0649685506/bluewall.jpg/view

Nice color

Right now, everyrhing is on the table. One issue is that an anodized finish on the windows adds 22% to the window cost. Because of that, we are probably going to have to go with paited aluminum windows (either white or bronze). I think a dark blue would go with the bronze but maybe not with the white. We have been thinking about two different colors. The dark blue would be nice for the dark area, but I am not sure what the lighter color would be. Finally, I wonder if the image you have is of a two-coat or three-coat stucco treatment. The two coar has an even paited look while the three coat has a more uneven look as the pigment is added to the last coat that is trowelled on.

miss you

Oh, how I miss the brick! That being said I was thinking about the exterior today and thought about how nice a black subway tile would be as the dark band at the living room. Nice shiny black subway tile (6"x3" from DalTile or American Olean) against a natural grey stucco. Or maybe aeven somehting a bit jazzier like a really vivid Red! Watcha think?

render one up

I'd like to see it in that concrete grey color with the tile. What color windows would you do with that scheme? Black if you went with the colors? White if you went with black?

Sweet!

I am loving the tile idea. I had thought of it before, but figured it would be quite spendy. I am going to get the windows bid with paint finish (white or bronze) and in the clear anodized. I keep hoping for a miracle and that, at the end of the day, the anodized will fit in the budget. And I am with Greg, let's see some images! I'll post them here.

mmMMM good!
