For about ten years, I have known that I wanted to build a house. Back then, I had no idea what it would look like. About five years ago I discovered modernism and started to read everything I could about modern architecture. About three years ago, I discovered the perfect house: Case Study House #8 by Charles and Ray Eames. I started trying to figure out what it was about that house that I really loved so I could incorporate those characteristics into our future house. With a cheap home architecural program, I probably made 50 versions of the Eames house trying to capture the important features in a house that would suit a family of four. Then last January we found it. A lot for sale in a suburb immediately north of Dallas (where we currently live). The lot was narrow but deep (60x170) but we could afford it. Now it was time to get serious.
