Greg La Vardera, online in many modernist forums including LiveModern, is being honored by Dwell Magazine this evening as a Nice Modernist.

Dwell is hosting their 2nd annual Nice Modernist Awards at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. The Nice Modernist award is presented in each issue of Dwell to honor someone who has "done something nice." Greg was the featured Nice Modernist in the July/August 2003 issue for his tireless efforts to help people on the Dwell message boards.

For those of us that can't be present in Los Angeles, a heart-felt CONGRATULATIONS! to Greg. You've toiled in the field for years, and planted many seeds to grow our field. It would have been great to see your accomplishments celebrated in Los Angeles.

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It was just ten months ago that I first stumbled into the Dwell magazine forums while searching the net to see if anyone else had the same crazy idea I was thinking of; i.e., to create and market modernist home plans. It was to my great surprise and delight that I found a whole world of enthusiastic people from all walks of life. But the most influencial among them was Greg Lavardera, and he has been instrumental in helping me to get my own effort started. Greg has been a true inspiration, not only to me, but to everyone on the Dwell boards. His enthusiasm, his easy-going and even-tempered nature, and the depth and breadth of his knowledge and professionalism has served as an example for all to follow. I can't think of anyone who deserves this award more, or who so well fits the title "Nice Modernist." Congratulations, Greg.

well deserved indeed

I went along to the award ceremony at the LA MOCA last night and spent quite a while chatting with Greg - and also applauding loudly when he collected his award! Greg clearly deserved the Nice Modernist award and should be proud of his recognition. Congratulations Greg!

thank you

Whew, I just got back fromo my whirlwind trip to LA. I only had one free day to tour around, and when you realize the breadth and diversity of LA that is really a tiny sliver of time. I went to CSH #8 to finally see this Eames work in person, and while there went down to sees a few things in Santa Monica, and then spent the balance of my time going through the amazing hillside neighborhoods above Hollywood. The event last night was very nice, getting to meet the other Nice Modernists and Dwell staff was a real pleasure. These other folks are really doing amazing stuff and its such an honor to be included in their ranks.

The Nicest Modernist

Greg is by far the nicest modernist I know, and most importantly, he has the know-how and design skill to back it up. (Unlike some people who just collect links. Ahem.)

He has been more that accommodating with amateurish questions and queries and seems genuinely interested in input from the masses.

Congrats Greg and keep up the good work!
