This talk will present creative design and construction system prototypes by Anderson Anderson Architecture following the structure of a soon-to-be-published book on their work Prefab Prototypes: Site-Specific Design for Offsite Construction (Princeton Architectural Press, March 2006) within a detailed survey of the different available approaches to prefabricated construction. Anderson Anderson has been involved in the development and application of off-site building strategies for over 15 years, and has built projects using a wide variety of structural systems throughout the U.S. and overseas. The presentation will discuss all of the major approaches to offsite building design, analyzing strengths and weaknesses and appropriate applications for each of the systems. The case studies will include design prototypes and built projects using each of the techniques, which include panelized framing, sandwich panels, steel, concrete and modular systems. The talk will focus on design and structural principals which can be adapted to a wide variety of building applications, from simple, mass-produced structures, to complex, highly custom homes and larger buildings that require individualized approaches to specific sites, programs, and design ambitions. $10 members, $20 nonmembers; please RSVP to the email below.
